Macau Orientation

Macau is sited on the Southeast seaboard of the country in the occidental bank of the Pearl River Delta. The city limits with Guangdong Province, 60 kilometers from Hong Kong and 145 kilometers from Guangzhou.

The Macau SAR comprises three parts: the Macau Peninsula (which has 8.8 square kilometers and linked to the mainland), the islands of Taipa (6.4 square kilometers) and Coloane (7.6 square kilometers plus Cotai, a reclaimed area of 4.7 square kilometers).

The old city was situated in the Peninsula; consequently, here are the historic sights. In the Peninsula is also placed the city amenities. This district is not very large so it's possible to get around on foot or buses. In the southeast is the Jetfoil Terminal, for traveling to Hong Kong. The most important road is Avenida Almeida Ribeiro, wich cuts the city from east to west. Here there is the famous Hotel Lisboa,and in the westernmost point is the inner harbour, close to the docking site for Guangzhou's ferries.

There are three bridges linking the developed Peninsula to Taipa Island: Nobre de Carvalho (2.5 kilometers long); the Friendship Bridge (4.5 kilometers long, which leads to the Macau International Airport); and the cable-stayed Sai Van Bridge (2.2 kilometers long).

Coloane and Taipa are connected between them by the Causeway, and to the islands of Guangdong Province by the Lotus Bridge.
