By boat: One can get to Guilin by cargo boat from Guangzhou via Wuzhou, however there are no passenger boats to Guilin anymore. There are boats to and from Yangshuo.
By bus: To/from elsewhere: Buses link Guilin has several destinations, including Zhuhai, Guangzhou, Nanning, Shenzhen, Kunming and further afield.
By car: There are some expressways locally & within the province, but for any long distance journey, it's a two lane road.
By plane: In Liangjiang International Airport, there are daily flights to Guilin from Guangzhou, Beijing, Shanghai (RMB 660 one-way before taxes and service charges as of Nov 2006), Chengdu, Bangkok, Hong Kong, Kunming, Hangzhou, Chongqing, Macau, etc.
By train: Guilin has 2 train stations. Guilin station is in the centre of city on Zhongshan Nanlu while Guilin North station is far away from downtown area.
Most, but not all, trains which terminate/originate in Guilin go to or come from Guilin North while trains which come through Guilin from elsewhere generally only go to Guilin station and not Guilin North.
There are trains from North (Shanghai, Wuhan, Changsha, Xian, Beijing), West (Kunming), South (Zhanjiang, Nanning, Liuzhou), and East (Shenzhen, Guangzhou).
• To/from Nanning: There are approx 10 trains to choose from if coming from Nanning (5 to 6 hours). From Guilin to Nanning, trains depart at 1436 (train from Beijing), 1605, 1900 (from Shanghai to Kunming), 0013 (train from Xian), 0826, 0852 (train to Kunming), 0748, 0809 (train from Zhengzhou), 0622 (from Nanchang), 1613 (from Wuxi).
• To/from Guangzhou and Shenzhen: There are 2 trains to Guangzhou daily, leaving at 1804 (from Liuzhou) & 2000. The latter goes all the way to Shenzhen.
• To/from Kunming: The more fast trains to Kunming are those who take the via Nanjing and the scenic Nankun railway, approx 20 hours and by via Guiyang take at least 28 hours.
• To/from Beijing: To Beijing there are 3 trains on either direction and usually trains depart from Guilin at 1506 (from Nanning), 0059 (train from Zhanjiang) and 1930. The trip takes about 22 hour to 30 hours, with the 1506 train being the fastest.
