Golf courses in China

Since China was reopened to the world two decades ago, golf has experienced a remarkable growth. Today, the country has the fastest emergent golf industries of Asia, with over 200 courses with another 100 courses under construction; all of them with world class facilities and services.

Most of golf courses lie along the southeastern coastal. Beijing together with the principal cities of the country counts with several courses, but the finest golf clubs in China are further south in Guangdong Province near to the South China Sea and Hong Kong stressing the marvelous Agile Golf and Country considered one of the best golf courses of all Asia. Littoral of Yunnan Province has also excellent golf clubs including the splendid Spring City.

The world’s leading golfing facility is located in China. Shenzhen’s Mission Hills Golf Club counts with 10 full size courses. In addition, this golf resort was ranked in 2004 17 out of 100 in a poll of "Top 100 Courses You Must Play" conducted by English magazine Golf World.

Chinese tradition says that golf was created in the country during the Southern Tang dynasty (10th century) and was known as Chuiwan, 500 years before golf was mentioned by the Scottish. Today, the explosion in local improvement and the upcoming talent of Chinese practitioners, has originated the Omega China Tour - a national golf competition-, and also has produced the first heroes such as Zhang Lian-Wei.
