Datong is a town in the northern Shanxi Province in China, and is situated a few hundred kilometres west by rail from Beijing with an elevation of 1090 meters. Nowadays, it has a population of approximately 3.11 million.

The city of Datong is located 1,200 metres high in the north, northern part of Shanxi Province, the center of Datong Basin.
